Travel Tips & Packing a Carry-On

My grandma and grandpa have always traveled a lot, which is where I get my wanderlust from. You’d think after studying abroad, where I took quite a few puddle jumper plane trips, I’d be a better “light” packer than I am. I just like to be prepared though. My grandma has taught me one thing, wear and pack clothing that can be layered.

This is a snippet of what I am packing for our upcoming trip to Virginia Beach and the surrounding area. The weather isn’t supposed to be too warm, which is why you see a lot of long sleeved tops and jeans. Most pieces are considered neutrals and items that can be dressed up or down for a casual day-time look. If you’re packing light you don’t want to pack items that are stand alone or super trendy.

My tips:

  • look at the weather
  • plan on re-wearing your jeans/leggings
  • bring jackets that are universal
  • dress up outfits with jewelry
  • don’t pack items your hotel/Air BnB has on-hand (ie. blow dryer)

Packing Your Personal Item for the Plane

I bought the above travel wallet from Amazon per the recommendation from Cristin Cooper. I love the way it has pockets for all of your travel documents. Everything important can be kept in one place. It even has a spot for a pen.

Bring a water bottle along, but remember it has to be empty going through security. Once through security fill it up at your gate. The cabin air on planes is drying to your skin. Having a water bottle handy is a great way to combat that. Plus you save money not buying that $7 one at the airport convenience store.

I stumbled across the Jetsetter Pocket storage bag at TJMaxx and knew I had to have it for traveling. When packing a carry-on I am usually short on space so I need everything to be organized and easily found. I love that it has different pockets but is small enough to not take up a ton of space.
